These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of StoryWith AI ("we", "us", "the service"). By creating an account or using the service you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use the service.
The short version.
- You own your manuscripts and any AI-generated content you keep.
- You can cancel your subscription at any time. No long-term contract.
- You're responsible for what you write and publish using the service.
- We provide the service "as is" — outages happen, AI makes mistakes, please back up your work.
- Don't use StoryWith AI to write or distribute illegal, harmful, or infringing content.
1. Acceptance of these Terms
By creating an account, signing in, or using any part of the service, you confirm that you accept these Terms and agree to comply with them. These Terms form a binding agreement between you and StoryWith AI.
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email or in-app notice at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 16 years old to use StoryWith AI. If you are using the service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms.
3. Your account
You are responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials secure and for all activity under your account. Notify us at support@storywith.ai if you suspect unauthorized access. We reserve the right to suspend accounts that appear to be compromised, automated, or violating these Terms.
4. Subscription, billing, and refunds
Paid plans are processed by Stripe, our payment processor. By subscribing, you also agree to Stripe's terms.
- Billing cycle: monthly or yearly, depending on the plan you select. Subscriptions auto-renew until cancelled.
- Cancellation: you can cancel at any time from your billing settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period — you keep paid features until then.
- Refunds: within 14 days of your initial purchase or upgrade, you may request a full refund by emailing support@storywith.ai. After 14 days, we do not provide pro-rated refunds for the current billing period, but we won't charge you for the next one once you cancel.
- Price changes: we may adjust prices for new sign-ups at any time. Existing subscribers will be given at least 30 days' notice before any price increase takes effect for them.
- Failed payments: if your payment fails, we'll attempt to retry per Stripe's standard schedule. If unresolved, we may downgrade your account to the Free tier — your content remains accessible.
- Taxes: applicable taxes are calculated at checkout based on your billing location.
5. Your content
You own everything you create or upload. Your manuscripts, characters, world entries, scenes, comments, sources, citations, argument maps — all of it. We claim no ownership of your work.
By using the service, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide license to store, process, and display your content solely for the purpose of providing the service to you and your invited collaborators. This license ends when you delete your content or close your account. We do not use your content to train AI models — see our Privacy Policy for the technical detail.
You are responsible for the legality of your content. You represent that you have the rights to all material you upload (no infringing other people's work, no unauthorized use of copyrighted text, no defamatory or unlawful content).
6. AI-generated content
StoryWith AI provides AI-driven features: outline generation, scene insights, prose assistance, cover art, query letters, fact-check, and more. The output of these features ("AI Output") is yours to use, modify, or discard, subject to:
- Ownership: to the extent our generation creates new copyrightable material, we assign to you all of our rights in the AI Output you keep. Be aware that under current US law, purely AI-generated content may not itself be copyrightable; meaningful human authorship is generally required for copyright protection.
- Provider terms: AI features are powered by third-party model providers (currently Google Gemini, OpenAI GPT, via the Lovable AI Gateway). AI Output is also subject to those providers' usage policies, which prohibit generating illegal content, infringing material, or content that violates their safety policies.
- No exclusivity guarantee: AI models can produce similar outputs for different users given similar prompts. We don't guarantee that AI Output is unique to you.
- Accuracy: AI Output may contain errors, biases, or hallucinations. Fact-check is a best-effort tool, not a substitute for human verification. Don't rely on AI suggestions for factual claims, legal advice, medical advice, or anything else where accuracy matters without independent verification.
- Responsibility: you are responsible for reviewing AI Output before publishing or otherwise relying on it.
7. Acceptable use
You agree not to use the service to:
- Create or distribute illegal content (including child sexual abuse material, threats, content inciting violence).
- Infringe anyone's intellectual property, privacy, or publicity rights.
- Defame, harass, or impersonate another person.
- Generate content that violates the AI provider's safety policies (see the AI providers' usage policies).
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or circumvent the service's access controls.
- Resell or sublicense access to your account, or share login credentials.
- Use automated tools to abuse AI features beyond normal interactive use.
- Interfere with the service's operation (DDoS, exploits, malware, abuse of error pages or rate limits).
We may investigate suspected violations and may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules. We will provide notice and an opportunity to remedy where practical, but we may act immediately to prevent harm.
8. Our intellectual property
The service itself — the software, design, trademarks, brand, documentation — belongs to StoryWith AI and its licensors. Nothing in these Terms transfers ownership of those to you. You receive a limited, revocable, non-transferable license to use the service for its intended purpose during your subscription.
9. No warranty
The service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don't guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that AI Output will be accurate or fit for any purpose. Back up your work regularly. The Markdown export from any book lets you keep a local copy.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, StoryWith AI's total liability to you for any claim arising from these Terms or your use of the service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose, or (b) US$100. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages, including lost profits, lost manuscripts, or lost goodwill, even if we were advised of the possibility.
Some jurisdictions don't allow these limitations; in those jurisdictions our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold StoryWith AI harmless from claims, damages, and expenses arising from (a) your use of the service in violation of these Terms, (b) content you upload or publish using the service, or (c) your violation of third-party rights.
12. Termination
You can stop using the service at any time. Cancelling your subscription stops future billing; deleting your account permanently removes your content within 30 days (subject to backup retention).
We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms. Where possible we'll give notice and a chance to remedy. If we terminate without cause (e.g., we shut down a feature or the service), we will notify you in advance and provide an opportunity to export your work.
13. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. The courts of the State of Delaware, United States have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute, except that consumers in jurisdictions with protective consumer-protection laws retain access to their local courts and consumer rights.
14. Changes to these Terms
We may revise these Terms as the service evolves. Material changes are announced in-app or by email at least 30 days before taking effect. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
