Ask about your manuscript in the AI app you already use. A connected app answers with StoryWith AI's own analysis of your book, from structure and pacing to characters, continuity, dialogue and reader feedback, while the writing itself stays in StoryWith AI.
Your connection address
Every AI app connects with this one address. The first time, the app sends you to StoryWith AI to sign in and approve what it can do. There is no API key to create or paste.
https://storywith.ai/api/mcpWhat a connected app can do
- Read your books when you ask about them: the structure, characters, world, continuity notes, earlier analysis and your prose.
- Run StoryWith AI's analyzers, including emotional arc, dialogue, themes, scene purpose, setups and payoffs, voice drift and fact-checking, and bring the results back to you. By default, Claude and ChatGPT ask you before each run that uses an AI credit.
- Tell you what to work on next, from the prioritized action list StoryWith AI builds out of every analysis and reader response.
- Save ideas, margin comments and revision tasks that you dictate to it.
What it never does
- It never writes or rewrites your manuscript. A suggested rewrite stays a suggestion until you accept it inside StoryWith AI.
- It cannot publish, delete or share your books.
- It does not generate images.
The one exception: when a StoryWith administrator connects, the connection can also create and publish articles on the public StoryWith AI Journal. It still cannot touch anyone's manuscript.
Connect in Claude
- In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors.
- Choose Add, then Add custom connector.
- Name it StoryWith AI, paste your connection address and choose Continue.
- Sign in to StoryWith AI when asked, and choose Allow access.
- In a chat, choose + and then Connectors, and switch StoryWith AI on.
Claude's free plan allows one custom connector. On Team and Enterprise plans, an owner adds it once under Organization settings, then Connectors, and members connect to it from Customize.
Connect in ChatGPT
- In ChatGPT, open Plugins and choose to add a custom MCP server.
- Name it StoryWith AI, paste your connection address as the server address, and choose OAuth if ChatGPT asks how to sign in.
- Confirm, then sign in to StoryWith AI when asked and choose Allow access.
- In a chat, type @ and choose StoryWith AI.
A ChatGPT workspace administrator can switch custom MCP servers off. ChatGPT renames this part of its settings from time to time, so if you can't find it, search ChatGPT's help for “custom MCP server”.
Connect in Claude Code
Run this in a terminal:
claude mcp add --transport http storywith-ai https://storywith.ai/api/mcpThen start Claude Code, run /mcp, choose storywith-ai and sign in to StoryWith AI.
Other AI apps
Any app that supports remote MCP servers with sign-in (OAuth) connects the same way: add a remote MCP server with your connection address, and the app sends you to StoryWith AI to sign in.
Plans and AI credits
Connecting works on every StoryWith AI plan, including Free. Reading your books and saving notes costs nothing. An analysis uses one AI credit, and so does each set of rewrite suggestions, pitch kit or proposal, all from the same credits you use in the app (the readiness report is free). A connected app can only use credits you already have, and it never adds a charge.
Ask your AI app how many credits you have left. Checking doesn't use one.
Disconnecting
Open Settings in StoryWith AI and choose Disconnect next to the app under Connected AI apps. The app is refused from its very next request. You can also remove StoryWith AI in the app's own settings. Go to Settings
Privacy
A connected app receives what it asks StoryWith AI for on your behalf, such as the prose of a scene you ask about, and what it then does with it is governed by its own terms and privacy policy. StoryWith AI keeps a record of which apps you connected and which of its tools they used, never the content of a request. Read our privacy policy.
